About Durham PrEP Clinic

Built for people who deserve clarity, protection, and care

We built the Durham PrEP Clinic for the people who are too often overlooked, unheard, or left navigating their health alone.

Sejal Shah, Pharmacist and Founder

Sejal Shah

Pharmacist & Founder

Sejal Shah has spent years working in the HIV space and has seen firsthand how powerful the right support can be. Her mission goes beyond dispensing medication.

She is deeply committed to educating, advocating, and standing beside every patient with compassion and without judgment. To her, this isn’t just healthcare — it’s personal.

Dr. Ronak Brahmbhatt is a family physician with a focused passion for HIV prevention and inclusive care. His work centers on PrEP, PEP, STI treatment and prevention, and gender-affirming care.

He believes every patient deserves to feel safe being honest about their health, their risks, and their needs.

Together, as a family-run clinic, we are building something different.

A place where you are not judged.
A place where your questions are answered.
A place where your health is taken seriously.

Whether you’re here to protect yourself, seek treatment, or simply understand your options — you are not alone.

And you never have to figure it out on your own again.

Understanding HIV, PrEP and PEP

HIV is a virus that affects the immune system. Without treatment, it can weaken the body’s ability to fight infections and illness.

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is medication taken before a possible HIV exposure to help reduce the chance of getting HIV.

PEP stands for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is urgent medication used after a possible HIV exposure. Timing is important.

Screening Questionnaires

PrEP Screening vs PEP Screening

PrEP Screening

Use this assessment to identify whether a patient may benefit from PrEP consultation and prevention-focused care.

This is a screening tool only and is not a diagnosis. A final decision should always be made by a licensed clinician after reviewing the full clinical picture.
1 / 8
PrEP Question 1

Have you had more than one sexual partner in the last 6 months?

This helps us understand whether prevention support may be helpful.

PrEP Question 2

Have you had sex with a partner whose HIV status was unknown?

Unknown partner status may increase the need for prevention review.

PrEP Question 3

Have you had condomless vaginal or anal sex recently?

This helps guide whether PrEP may be appropriate to discuss.

PrEP Question 4

Have you had an STI diagnosis in the last 12 months?

Recent STI history can be part of the prevention conversation.

PrEP Question 5

Do you have a sexual partner living with HIV, or a partner with unclear treatment or viral suppression status?

This may increase the value of a PrEP consult.

PrEP Question 6

Have you shared needles or injection equipment?

Shared equipment may make prevention support more important.

PrEP Question 7

Are you in a situation that may increase exposure risk, such as unstable housing or shared living circumstances?

Life circumstances can affect prevention needs too.

PrEP Question 8

Do you personally feel that you are at ongoing risk and want extra protection?

Patient concern matters and should always be taken seriously.

PEP Screening

Use this assessment to identify whether a patient may need urgent PEP review after a recent possible HIV exposure.

PEP is time-sensitive. This screen helps guide urgency but does not replace clinician review.
1 / 8
PEP Question 1

Did the possible exposure happen within the last 72 hours?

PEP is time-sensitive, so timing is the first thing we need to know.

PEP Question 2

What type of exposure happened?

Choose the option that is closest to the event.

PEP Question 3

Was the source partner HIV positive or of unknown status?

This helps guide how urgent the next steps may be.

PEP Question 4

Was there condomless sex or condom failure?

This helps us understand whether a full urgent review is needed.

PEP Question 5

Did the exposure involve vaginal or anal sex, or direct blood exposure?

This helps assess the urgency of the exposure.

PEP Question 6

Was visible blood involved?

Visible blood can change how quickly someone should be assessed.

PEP Question 7

Was injection equipment shared?

Shared equipment may increase the urgency of review.

PEP Question 8

Is the patient mainly seeking reassurance after a lower-risk or uncertain event?

This still matters and deserves a proper answer and support.
